EXCERPTS FROM THE ARTISTS NOTES ON LOS CUADROS EVANGELISTAS When I accepted the task of replacing the damaged images of the Four Evangelists with my own rendition in the St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church of my hometown, Sariaya, I was fully cognizant of the fact that not only it is a prodigious blessing for me as an artist but it is an endeavour of profound meaning for me as a Catholic. The images will not only be artworks but they will be considered as holy icons – to be blessed and consecrated as articles of worship for all generations to come. And to be worthy of the task, I tried not only to consider my own artistic vision. I prayed, did research and read up on the literature of the Christian faith regarding these four personalities. Each time that I took my place in front of the canvas I tried to imagine the individual whom Gods inspiration was giving birth to in my creative process.
