EXCITING NEWS!!!! Ive been accepted on a life changing youth volunteering programme VSO Youth Volunteering to fight poverty and improve livelihoods in CAMBODIA for THREE MONTHS leaving on March 3rd!!!!!! I set myself some challenges at the start of 2015 to better myself and help others - Ive become vegetarian - Im running the Brighton Half Marathon in February - Ive started volunteering for Mission Hope and now Im volunteering overseas for three months! Theres so much more to life than scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed whilst watching episode after episode on Netflix moaning that the dominos Ive just ordered is ten minutes late... People are suffering all over the world, including in my own community, and there’s so much you can do to help whilst challenging yourself and making your own life more meaningful; improving your own sense of self worth. I want to look back on my life in years to come and be proud of all the decisions I made and how I spent my time - I really feel like this voluntary placement will be a highlight! I hope I can make a lasting difference to the lives of those living in Stung Treng in Cambodia and develop transferable skills that I can bring home and utilise in my own community! I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Cambodia, on a project that secures livelihoods. International Citizen Service (ICS) works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development. I need to raise £800 for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work.
