EXCLUSIVE: THE TRUTH ABOUT THAT MEMO. Anyone who was hyperventilating about the memo from Helmettas DPW regarding new animal shelter procedures can take a breath. Its not accurate. The memo appears to be dated this morning, and it appears to tell municipalites contracted with Helmetta to contact the old directors to have animals picked up. Heres the real story. I have finally traced the memo to its original source. An email with that memo attached to it was sent to all municipalities, but it was sent on FRIDAY AFTERNOON AT 4:23PM. The memo was not, actually written today, but the attached PDF file was dated today. In other words, A TYPO. Or perhaps there was an auto date function on it - and the date updates itself whenever someone opens it. But the bottom line is: it was sent Friday at 4:23pm, not today. This is not subject to debate or discussion. I have located the original email. This is clear-cut. It is a matter of fact. Im not going to defend the wisdom of sending out that memo, even on Friday afternoon, but bear in mind that at the time, there was no replacement administrator hired yet. Councilman Chris Slavicek was still acting director and he was going to expire as of 10pm. This would have been the back-up plan had they not hired a full-time administrator. Which they did. Two hours after the memo was prematurely sent out. Bottom line: the document is real but it was not written today, contrary to the date that appears on it. Multiple municipalities inform my producer they have been given a different contact person to call, NOT the old directors.
