EXHIBITION - MADE IN RUSSELL: By Local Artists This collection of art is as eclectic as it is representative. Works date from the early 1940s into the present. The age of living artists ranges from about thirty to ninety five. The only common factor is that they all either live or have lived in Kororāreka - Russell. Art works have been lent from private collections - the artists own or collectors. Many of them arrived newly vacuumed and dusted - out of garages, spare bedrooms, under beds, or in one case from the lounge of a painters house. Kororāreka - Russell has always been a sheltering but nonetheless stimulating anchorage for the many talented artists and craftspeople who have visited or stayed here - from the unknown tohunga whakairo who carved the tekoteko on Rewas whare, Haratu, to todays working artists. Unfortunately our walls are not big enough to show all the talent we know to exist within this little town. Artists represented are: Clive Arlidge, Kerry Arlidge, Portia Arlidge, Dave Beere, Shane Cotton, Marsha Davis, Greta Henry, Merry Isaac, Charlotte Preston Larkin, Cherry Lawrie, Lyndsay Nichols, H Pick, Tilly, James Yearbury, Pauline Kahurangi Yearbury. Curated by Tracy Rewiri and Shelley Arlidge, with artistic direction from Helen Pick and Clive Arlidge. The exhibition runs from August 13th to November 16th. We are open 7 days, 10am to 4pm.
