EXPLODING ROOM Conceived & Directed by Jeannette Ginslov For the Honors Physical Performance Group 2013 bodies are more than just meat Susan Kozel (2007) A digital dance theatre work that examines at close range the entanglement of Contemporary Society with the phenomena of social media, online presence and an addiction to homogenizing, external, objective and rational viewpoints. Exploding Room highlights the fragmented and isolated online self, yet appreciates the sense of connectedness that the internet offers. It sees the performers entwine themselves in the technology, revel in online phenomena such as Facebook, selfies, twerking and amplifies the applause upon which popular culture feeds and manifests. It also reveals an enslavement to online news, updates and to whats trending: an almost tortuous relationship. The Exploding Room is at once ironic yet truthful, engaging yet infuriating, visceral yet intellectual, but above all, it is playful.
