EYE CHECK UP CAMP We the Rotracts of Saraswati Vidyalaya High School & Jr. College of Science, thane cordially invites all the grand parents of v, vi, vii & viii std. For ‘free eye check up’ camp to be held on Saturday, 14th January 2012 at 2.00 p.m in school premises. The ‘eye check up’ camp is conducted by Wavikar eye institute under the supervision of renowned Dr. Chandrashekhar Wavikar & Dr. Vaishali Wavikar INTERSCHOOL PLAY COMPETITION REPORT Inter School drama competitions are designed to provoke young minds and to engage and entertain them while imparting a very important message. The Inter School Childrens drama competition held at “Sahitya Sangh Mandir , Girgaum” during the second week of December – 2009 promoted the above concept. Students from twenty schools participated in this thrilling competition. The students of Saraswati Vidyalaya , Rabodi presented the thought provoking plays “Dharti Sange Tumhala” by the Primary Section and “ Cartoon , Cartoon and Cartoon” by the Secondary Section. It was a matter of great pride that our School walked away with all the top honours at this prestigious competition. “Dharti Sange Tumhala” presented by the Primary Section was honoured with the first prize for creative drama as well as the first prize for music. “Cartoon , Cartoon and Cartoon” presented by the Secondary Section bagged the first prize as the best drama. Our teacher Mrs. Sonali Naphade was also presented the “The Best Director” award for this play and Ms.Radha Hable of IX B walked away with the “Best Actor/Actress” award. The multi talented creative ‘navigators’ who created the magic on stage were Mrs.Madhavi Phadanis and Mrs.Sonali Naphade. They donned several caps, that of director , screen play writer and music director. Three cheers for the Sarasvis. 28th ANNUAL SPORTS DAY DECEMBER 19th 2009 (SATURDAY) Sports rejuvenate and activate the body inducing stable mental and physical health. Keeping this in mind the Saraswati Vidyalaya High School & Jr. College presented the grand 28th Annual Sports Day to showcase the tremendous potential of its rising sports stars. It was witnessed by a highly enthusiastic spectator crowd made up of encouraging parents & doting grandparents. To declare the games open, the dynamic IPS officer Superintendent Of Police for Thane Rural, Shri. Madhukar Pandey was invited. He expressed his pleasure on witnessing a wonderful event. Our beloved Principal Mrs. Mahajan, our respected trustees and our very capable coordinators were the dignitaries who graced the occasion. The Deer was the mascot of the games, symbolizing with its distinct elegance, grace & nimbleness the alertness & agility that is the mark of a true sportsman. Athletic events, displays and the prize distribution were a part of the ceremony. Cheer leaders of all the houses viz. Ganga, Yamuna, Kaveri & Godavari boosted their teams & spread an atmosphere of cheer & camaraderie. Such events teach students healthy competition, positive attitude, hard work & diligence. Crackers were burst & white pigeons were released in the open skies to spread the resolute spirit of freedom & liberation. The day progressed with flamboyant colorful displays by students right from Jr.KG to Jr.College. To the beat of traditional drums, reverberating cymbals & tutari in the background, the folk dance of lezim was performed with much gusto & energy. As night set in, the dazzling mashal dance enthralled the audience &lit up the dark dome of the sky like a thousand splendid suns. Finally the day ended with the closing ceremony & the curtain set on yet another memorable Sports Day. Other Events CAMPS: To instill qualities like self-reliance, dignity of labour, duty consciousness and responsibility towards society, there is no other activity better than that of Scout & Guide. We take our children for outdoor camping to inculcate these virtues in them. TREKKING: Trekking is organized in the hills and forts in the vicinity for students of Std-VIII to Std-X, during monsoon, to develop their physical and mental strength as well as develop awareness of the environment around us. PICNICS: Picnics are an annual event looked forward to by all, right from the K.G. Section to Std-XI. A day’s outing not only allows them to enjoy but also brings out their sense of responsibility and social interaction. LONG TOURS: Our long tours during the Diwali vacations (for a week to ten days) are an added attraction. Accompanied by teachers, they get an opportunity to visit different places for sight seeing and become aware of the varied beauty our motherland has to offer. Our academic, cultural and sports activity calendar is packed to capacity, at any given time of the year. As we have a very efficient ‘House system’, the Council Members of which are elected by secret ballot, our first official function is the ‘OATH TAKING CEREMONY’, wherein the new Council takes charge. The excellentia students are also inducted into the elite group during this grand ceremony. INTRA-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: After inception of the Council, the intra- school competitions begin in earnest. Debates, elocution, extempore, essay and story writing, dance, drama, singing and many more activities on individual and group basis are conducted to inculcate a healthy competitive spirit amongst pupils. GURU POORNIMA: Our tradition teaches us to always be indebted to our gurus for their teachings and to plant the seeds of showing gratitude to their gurus, in the guru-shishya parampara, Guru Poornima is celebrated on a grand scale where students put up a cultural programme and felicitate their teachers. INDEPENDENCE & REPUBLIC DAYS: They are the celebrations of a free country and are a reminder that students are our future leaders. RAKSHA BANDHAN: To inculcate the feeling of oneness and think of the student community as one big family, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated and the Rakhis tied are those made by children of Special Schools. DAHI HANDI: This is one occasion for the pupils to show their athletic prowess and team spirit and is celebrated with the right amount of vigor, fun and frolic. SPORTS DAY: Our Sports Day is held before the Christmas break, and is witness to a burst of energy and enthusiasm in the form of our mascot, march past, displays, lezim and of course the various sporting events and competitions. FUN FAIR: Every 26th January, after the flag hoisting in the morning, our Fun -Fair ‘Temptations’ is declared open. It is a social event that is looked forward to not only by pupils but by ex-students and parents too for whom it is an opportunity to catch up and relive old times. ANNUAL DAY: The ‘jewel in the crown’ of the year long activities, is of course our ‘Annual Day’ a bonanza of entertainment where our best talents are on display. A novel theme every year strings dance, drama and song in a unique combination. The ‘House Trophy’ winners are declared and our in-house magazine is released on this day.
