“Each farmer will be provided with soil health card. In order to strengthen agriculture in the state it is important to identify new areas in the state. A terminal market will be developed in Rudrapur. There is a need to develop the market of off seasonal vegetables. Herbal cluster must be set up in the state.” This was said by the Chief Minister Harish Rawat at the inaugural ceremony of the Veer Shiromani Madho Singh Bhandari ‘Kisan Bhawan’ at the Ring Road Mussoorie Bypass Jogiwala. Prior to this, he inaugurated the Kisan Bhawan which has been built on an expenditure of Rs 12 crore. The CM on the occasion also felicitated progressive farmers. The CM said that we will have to preserve traditional ways of farming. He stated that it is a great challenge to save agriculture. It is important for farmers. The government, he said is committed to provide all possible facilities for farming and solve all problems being faced by the farmers. It is very important to continue farming in the hills. New techniques are being introduced on daily basis. We will have to devise techniques which help us utilize available resources optimally. The CM said that it is government’s aim to provide farmers with Soil Health Card. If the need be, mobile soil test will also be introduced. The problems of the employees of the agriculture department related to structure of cadre will be resolved. The Krishi Mandi will be strengthened. Rehabilitation facilities will be improved so that farmers can get maximum help in sale of their produce. A terminal market will be be set up in Rudrapur. Special attention will be paid to land consolidation. This will be developed like a model. He said that it is praiseworthy that the Kisan Bhawan has been named after Veer Madho Singh. He described him as an inspiration and said that we shall also have to work on water conservation. The state government has introduced a ‘Humara Pedh, Humara Dhan’ scheme according to which bonus will be given on planting fodder yielding plants. Similarly a plan to give bonus to anyone who works in the field of water conservation can also be considered. The CM has directed the officials of the agriculture department to prepare a project report on such produces of the state which give a unique identity to Uttarakhand. More developments must be made in the field of off season vegetables. This will require collective efforts. He also also spoke about the possibilities in the organic area. The CM said that 5 each herbal clusters will be developed in Garhwal and Kumaon. Similarly, vegetables cluster and farming cluster will also be developed. These clusters will be developed area wise so that the farmers can get maximum benefit. Addressing the gathering, the CM said that inauguration of Kisan Bhawan is a historical moment. The farmers will now be able to get all facilities under one roof. Farmers will be trained on regular intervals and there will be accommodation for about 100 farmers. He asserted that it is the state government’s objective to stop migration and provide employment opportunities to the youth. Agriculture will have to be strengthened to improve the economy of the state. Several programs have been introduced for the convenience of farmers. The state government is also introducing a festival for farmers. Present on the occasion were President Seed Certification Tilak Raj Beharh, MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, Sanjay Chopra and farmers from various districts.
