Each of us has agency; each is free to choose. Nothing can free us spiritually more than obedience. Obedience to the laws, to the Lord.(Boyd K Packer) Joseph Smith taught us the first law of heaven: There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated And when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated (D&C 130:20-21). We came to earth to prove our willingness to obey (Abraham 3:24-26) Commandments are given because God loves us and wants us to become like him. But obedience is always voluntary (Helaman 14:30-31) At times we may need to obey even when we dont fully understand (1Nephi 3:7; Moses 5: 5-6) Other times it is by suffering, that we learn to obey (D&C 105:6) Always, we show our love for the Father and Son by choosing to obey. I hope that as we view and hear the prophets this weekend that we will be obedient to their counsel, for it comes from our Father, and is what he would have us do Now
