Earlier I walked into an NYU building and asked the security guard - TopicsExpress

Earlier I walked into an NYU building and asked the security guard at the front desk how he was doing as I entered. As I waited for the elevator, he said to me with a stern demeanor, Imam, I want to tell you something. I walked back over to him a little confused. He sat facing forward towards the entrance of the building and I stood near his right side. He said while still looking forward, Every time I am here, you are the only person who ever asks me how I am doing. Everyone else just walks right by as if I am not even here. I just wanted to say thank you for that. This man must have been in his 60s or so. I was truly at a loss for words and write this in hopes that those of you who are reading it will reflect deeply on it. Its take a moment to let people know that you know they are there. Give up the few seconds it will take to learn a name, to share a smile, to help someone realize that their presence is appreciated and valued, to just simply say thank you. It will make more of a difference than you realize.
