Earlier in the week, I wrote about a personal experience of mine that took place 8 years ago at Hannah Ashton Middle School, when Tina Thomas Manning was principal. A friend shared my post on this page, and the post received a great deal of attention. Today, Id like to address another experience of mine at Hannah Ashton that more directly relates to the topic at hand; Class Sizes. While in the advanced program, my class was stuffed into a cafeteria with so many other students that by the time I would get my food from the lunch line, my recess would have already started and there were very few places to sit. This became such an issue that finally, my mom set an appointment with TTM to discuss how this problem could be solved. The meeting was not a negotiation. My mom was immediately told that nothing would be done about the issue and nothing more was done. Finally, we contacted the superintendent of the time, who told us that he was told that it was not an issue. We insisted that it was an issue, and he actually came to the packed cafeteria himself to see for himself. Later that week, we were told that TTM had insisted to him that he had experienced an isolated incident. Nevertheless, the issue was quickly addressed and rectified personally by the superintendent. My point is this: on issues as serious as this, especially an issue of the welfare of our districts children, its essential that we never quit fighting to fix the issue at hand. What warms my heart is seeing everyone in our district and beyond coming together to rectify what they know to be wrong. I have since graduated and now attend The Ohio State University on free tuition, and I can honestly say that I strongly attribute my success to the wonderful teachers and staff at Reynoldsburg who have gone so far beyond what was expected of them to help me grow as a student and as a person. As Ive said before, the REA has my overwhelming support in all that they do. Thank you.
