Earlier this week, Foreign Secretary, Philip Hammond rejected the idea of a bill which would mean governments would have to give 0.7% of their budget as foreign aid. Islamic Relief has joined 14 other leading aid agencies in expressing concern over these comments. The 15 charities wrote a joint letter to the Telegraph, supporting this bill which would mean governments have to keep their promises regarding international aid. They argued he is misguided in his comments. They also wrote: British aid saves lives and changes lives every day...However, humanitarian aid alone is not enough. Enshrining the target in law will enable future British governments to make smart long-term investments that address the root causes of poverty.” Click here to read the letter in full: islamic-relief.org.uk/news/charities-express-concern-over-misguided-comments-on-uk-aid/
