Earlier this week, a 111 call was placed to our Communications Centre in Wellington by Georgia Douds-Needham, 6, of New Plymouth. Georgia had called to let us know that her Mums car was on fire; and her excellent phone manner impressed Communicator Mark Sanson, who answered her call for help. I was blown away by how calm and confident she was. – Communicator Mark Sanson, Central Fire Communications Mark had the following suggestions for parents who are teaching their children to call 111 in an emergency: To help us verify their location, teach them: - their home address - a nearby cross-street (another street that joins on to the street that your home is on) - and the name of the town or city that they live in The faster we can verify where an emergency is, the faster we can get help to where its needed.
