Earlier today I reported this on the fire situation for Oregon and Northern California north of Redding........ All I am hearing this morning from all fires in the area is that they are in full demobilization of the fire camps today. Command will be returned to the local units tomorrow morning to finish mop up and rehab work. This includes the Onion Mountain Fire west of Grants Pass. The 36 Pit Fire southeast of Portland, and the Happy Camp Complex. In short.....for the first time since the second week of June, there will be no major fires in our area to report on. THAT is what the rains of yesterday have done for us. I have since learned I had this almost correct. The two fires in Oregon are correct. Both the Onion Mountain and 36 Pit Fires will be turned over to type III IMTs from local units in the morning to finish mop up and re hab work. However, down at the Happy Camp Complex they will be keeping their IMT I command team through at least Sunday morning, maybe longer depending. They have however demobilized a large part of the out of area resources assigned to the fire. They are down to just 1 - 20 man crew, and 6 engines, along with 8 helicopters. Considering the sheer size of the fire, that is not a great deal of manpower from outside the area. NONE of the fires have shown much activity today beyond smoldering in heavier fuels.
