Earlier today, we posted a list of all of the Novembers that have had measurable snow in Little Rock. This brought up the question: Does measurable snow in November equal a snowy winter to come? A review of weather records indicates that measurable snow in November is not a good indicator of whether the following winter will be snowy. (Here, we are using the meteorological definition of winter, which is the months of December, January, and February.) Out of 14 Novembers with measurable snow in Little Rock, 6 were followed by winters with snowfall considerably less than normal, 5 were followed by winters with snowfall fairly close to average, and 3 were followed by winters with considerably more snow than normal (all three of which occurred before 1900).
