Early Dungeon Synth was created with, by todays standards, - TopicsExpress

Early Dungeon Synth was created with, by todays standards, primitive technology. The equipment presented a myriad of challenges when working correctly, and must have been frustrating as hell to use. We are spoiled today, there is no doubt about it - instead of being restricted by the confines of the hardware, we now have limitless ability to add tracks, duplicate, layer, subtract, tinker with, and play to our hearts content. I think we have too many options - and I think if we dont realize that, its easy to lose yourself in a cycle of frustration and non-productivity. The solution? Study your roots! Dont only study the classics, but study the history of electronic too. Old chiptune game soundtracks, for instance, are a terrific topic to study. The limitations placed on the music in old games is astonishing, and certainly inspiring. There is much to learn! As an artist, I believe wholeheartedly that simplicity is beautiful, and that the more power you can pack into the simplest forms, the better. Studying these is certainly good practice in working to achieve that. (-Spooky Griff)
