Early SENSE BC supporters will know the subject of Civil Assets Forfeiture in BC has been a recurring theme for us. BCs new Attorney General, Suzanne Anton has yet to step up to the plate to deal with this legislation which was sold to British Columbians as a means to recover ill gotten gains and prevent criminals from profiting from crime. Ms. Anton, has yet to correct some of her incapable predecessors missteps and in this article is quoted as saying (among other things), “The public has a very strong interest in seeing that people do not keep ill-gotten gains,” she said. “And that’s why generally there’s public support for this Civil Forfeiture Act.” Maybe so Suzanne, but much of the public is unaware that one can have a car seized at roadside for excessive speed, let alone permanently confiscated for infractions involving an allegation that never saw court.
