Early Settlers of Gordon Lake – Pg. 30 Tweedsmuir History The first pioneers around Gordon Lake were Joseph Alderson who kept the first Post Office, started the first store and cleared the farm. Dan Robertson cleared the farm now occupied by Gordon Torrance. He also started the first school section, donating the land upon which the first school section was built. In later years he retired off the farm selling out to Martin Alcock. He bought out the store from Ewen Cameron and was in business for quite a number of years. Through the influence of Dan Robertson Desert Post Office was changed to Gordon Lake; also the Lake Proper was renamed Gordon Lake. About 64 years ago William Cash sold his farm in MacLennan and moved on the land now known as the Cash Place. He was elected Reeve of the township of Johnson and he acted as Reeve for quite a number of years. The G.R. Wright farm now occupied by David Orr was located by Mr. Wright from Owen Sound upon 320 acres in the centre of Gordon Lake. Wright afterwards sold 160 acres of the said 320 acres to Thomas Williams, this property is now occupied by Charles Wilmott. Mr Wright also had a small general store. Adam Cook was the first settler on the farm now occupied by Richard Bell. In later years Cook sold this farm to Samuel Bell. Cook was mail-carrier around here for several years. When Samuel Bell was killed his brother Peter Bell took over the farm and cleared most of the land. Jim Latimer was the first settler on the farm now occupied by Stewart Bell. --Written by Ruby Orr, Information from Mr. T. Higgins – 1955
