Earned Respect Great Performance @ Southport50 Baltimore, Kicking The Worlds Ass. When are they going to get the respect they deserve? Im a New Yorker, born and raised, schooled etc, and will always be loyal to where I came from. But give credit where credit is due. If all these producers and artists were from New York, California, or a major market, people would be drooling all over these folks tenfold. It sucks. Baltimore has the real Kings and Queens of House. Soulful House that is. The Basement Boys as a group, and now individually have been the leaders in soulful dance music. Its about time the press make up for not being on top of them. Its about time major corporations want to do mainstream business with them. Its about time major nightclubs should be calling them from around the world to be residents. They are over the radar, not under it anymore. Its time. Its time to look at them as current American icons. Why wait till theyre dead. Every producer, dj, nightclub, record label, website from Baltimore should be focused on, NOW! Collectively their musical format, musical intensity, energy, soulfulness, makes them tops in the dance music industry right now. By the numbers, the amount of soulful artists released (especially female artists where theres been a drought,) are unmatched. From Crystal waters, Ultra Nate, Jasper St Co to Tracy Hamlin, Baltimore talent has been dominant for 25 years. Still kicking ass now. Not much competition. Besides the most talented soulful artists, all the producers have evolved into best DJs in the world. If you didnt know this, then youd be missing a vital part of the spectrum of soulful dance music that America has to offer. Soul, Gospel, Jazz, are necessities to fully experience black music.
