East Rennell in the Solomon Islands was inscribed onto the UNESCO - TopicsExpress

East Rennell in the Solomon Islands was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1998. In 2013, it was placed on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in Danger due to logging threats, invasive species and over-harvesting of native species. Please support this amazing group of people from Rennell who are now fighting both LOGGING and MINING interests. A document has been loaded on FB showing signatures of tribe members, some whom they claim are children and very old people, against whose names appear some very confident and flashy signatures (which could not be theirs). Putting it out there for information and discussion. How can indigenous groups such as these be assisted and how can FREE, PRIOR AND INFORMED CONSENT be assured for all members? Are there any good practice examples which Urgent Appeal: Stop Logging at Rennell Island (Solomon Is) Kev Saueha and people such as myself could draw from? For others out there, if you are passionate about such issues and can lend assistance please do join SAY NOT TO LOGGING & MINING IN RENNELL.
