“Easy short term choices lead to difficult long term consequences. Meanwhile, difficult short term choices lead to easy long term consequences and so the great irony … the great paradox is that in all the different areas of our lives whether it is getting out of debt or getting into shape or saving our marriages or starting our business … when we look for the short cuts we start to do the easy things in the short term [and] it actually makes life much more difficult in the long run. All of the indulgences that we engage in … they don’t help us get there faster, they make it longer. So procrastination and indulgence are really nothing more than creditors that charge you interest.
