Ebola Update from Liberia We want to share with you a letter from Liberia regarding the Ebola virus. Please continue to pray. “I’m back from the field and the guys there are all worried of the prevailing situation. The situation has reached an alarming stage in our country. The death toll keeps rising nationwide of both health workers and ordinary citizens. Government ministries are now suspending work for a few weeks and some for up to a month. Major Health centers are closing or suspending activities. Today, the ELWA Hospital that is situated on the compound with our offices closed her doors. The two major hospitals in Bong County are now closed and patients were sent home because health workers are refusing to go to work. This attributed to deaths of several health workers at one of the health facilities in Bong. My visit to Zota was a timely one… We were able to create awareness on the Ebola Virus in our project communities. Surprisingly, Ebola awareness materials that we collected from the Ministry of Health representatives in Gbarnga, and taken into the field by us were the first to get to those communities. The participants were very receptive and asked if we could carry on awareness for the general population within our project communities. Lack of awareness on the Ebola Virus in the rural communities is a serious problem and is posing serious threat to the control of the spread of the virus. Our staff in the field also need training on ways to reduce the spread of the virus so that they too can protect themselves and also pass on said information to the project beneficiaries and the communities. We have contacted the Ministry of Health representative in Gbarnga to assist us in the training of our staffs on the Ebola virus, so that they can adequately carry the message to their various fields...
