Ecclesiastes 3 A Call of Joy! THOUGHT FOR TODAY: “As long as the earth lasts, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22 (NAB) This morning my heart leapt at the sound: the wood thrush was back! Each spring I eagerly wait for the sound; my ears and soul strain to hear it. When I get impatient and think that perhaps I won’t hear it this spring, one morning I’m suddenly surprised to hear the song, clear and flowing and weightless. I feel like bursting with joy! Ecclesiastes tells us: “There is an appointed time for everything, and a time for every affair under the heavens” (Ecclesiastes 3:1, NAB). And further: “I recognized that whatever God does will endure forever” (Ecclesiastes 3:14a). The robins and wood thrushes of spring always return; the butterflies drift in the summer breezes; the leaves of fall burst in color; and the cold of winter wraps around resting trees. The cycle of God’s marvelous creation endures. God’s love is everlasting. PRAYER: Creator God, it would take a lifetime to thank you for all of your gifts. Thank you for calls of joy! Amen.
