Now there are two adjectives modifying the man, poverty and wisdom and one is seen overpowering the other. The man is wise, thats undisputed because with his wisdom he was able to save a whole city from destruction nevertheless he is also poor and because of his poverty, he is despised(ignored, unappreciated, scorned, unrecognized). They couldnt even thank him for his wisdom neither did they seek his advice or listen to his wisdom again all because HE WAS POOR. Poverty is evil, its an oppression, an insult to human dignity.
