[Econ] I think a bump in the mandated minimum wage, is necessary - TopicsExpress

[Econ] I think a bump in the mandated minimum wage, is necessary and a start, but it doesnt solve our still-too-high level of underemployment, poverty, and the difficulty of maintaining a basic home. I wonder if.. a shift in the tax and regulatory burden would help? For certain jobs, eliminate totally the payroll taxes at the very bottom of the payscale, such that a person working minimum wage (which is still only $7.25 in most jurisdictions in the U.S.) will actually take home the full $7.25. And eliminate the majority of the payroll accounting and expense burden on the small business, such that theyll be more inclined to bring on more employees. Sometimes a shop-owner really does want to hire, but is afraid to make that first step because they dont want to get locked-in to the burden of a payroll. I am thinking that there is a certain psychological affect, when you can simply multiply the wage by 40 and know exactly what they new employee will be costing. To keep this tax-revenue-neutral, balance it against an excise tax on animal-exploitation (buyiing/selling animals, killing animals, vivisection, etc.). What are your thoughts?
