Econ geek moment. Before you decide employment is in good shape... Count everyone in America. Subtract anyone in an institution. Divide whats left based on whether theyre in the labor force or not. Thats participation rate - the percent of all of us participating in the economy. In 1992, participation rate was 66.4%. Today its 62.7%. Current US population is 316 Million. Thats over 115,000,000 people not participating. The roughly 4% difference in participation rate from 92 to today is over 12,000,000 people. Thats everyone in New York City ((8 Mil) and the City of Los Angeles (4 Mil) combined... just... sitting on the sidelines. Everyone get back to work. NYC and LA need to eat, and they aint gonna feed themselves.
