Economist Alan Kohler tells Joe Hockey something he must remind Malcolm Turnbull. The NBN projects works because it is a natural infrastructure monopoly with unlimited retail competition. If he allows infrastructure competition, it becomes impossible to deliver. The Department recognised this fact in its 2009 risk assessment, and this is why NBNCo negotiated commercial terms with Telstra and Optus to retire their ageing cable networks and migrate their customers onto NBN-owned fibre. Malcolm Turnbull needs to listen to the experts, including his appointee Ziggy Switkowski who admitted the same thing yesterday.
