Editorial Kashmir Thoughts ------ Hurriyat (G), Hurriyat (M) and now New Hurriyat ------ At the crack of dawn, we often see new slits on the political wall of Kashmir. Every leader seems to say that he is the only one who has absolute solicitude for the people of J&K, and habitually they give us an impression that most among the rest of the leaders have maligned the sentiments and scattered the aspirations of common Kashmiris. Initially, the tussle was between pro-Indian and pro-freedom parties, and it was quite a routine, but now even the attitudes among the separatist leaders are changing. Words of war between them can be seen quite regularly, and moreover, sometimes they even wash their dirty laundry in public. At the beginning of struggle movement, there was merely one Hurriyat Conference, but with the passage of time the perceptions differed among the members of the amalgam to such an extend that Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is one of the significant icons of freedom movement, decided to separate himself from the group. And then Hurriyat (M) and Hurriyat (G) came into being, and until today, they never tried to get united again. Now the brand-new Hurriyat Conference has announced its arrival at the Kashmir political platform. Shabir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Azam Inqilabi and few more have stated a new process, and have shown their displeasure towards Mirwaiz Omer Farooqs Hurriyat (M), and straightway disconnected themselves from his amalgam. Perhaps, is such approach going to give more strength to their demand of right to self-determination. And will the people of the state endorse the new and real Hurriyat. Obviously, it sounds quite pitiful, but at the same time we cannot overrule the possibility of a genuine reason which may have compelled them to take such an extreme step. However, one thing is conspicuous that such political drama provides a good chance to pro-Indian camp to mock and sneer at them. By: Shadab Bashir
