Editorial Right to know is people’s Innate Right Information is life. Information is power. Information is a means to survive. One can defend him or herself if informed ahead and its inalienable right of human beings to get and share with. People share, discuss and resolve with their context and environ. Information always goes ups and down structurally be it organizational or family tree. To share the needed information with those concerned bodies, before any step, that information has to be disseminated and displayed to the exposure. Here, the necessity of transparency is vital. It’s through a transparent approach we all can discuss and create a credible government or effective opposition. The secretive nature of the old EPLF and its offshoots did serve nothing and no one. Today, we never had the chance of getting the financial report of the Eritrean national income or expenditure officially as transparent as its citizens have expected. No one is able to speculate the annual gold income of the Bisha project. Not only that but any political document deemed to serve the state and its people should be at the exposure of its citizens to discuss and to resolve to the benefit of the people. It has to go from bottom to the top and vice versa. Hereafter, the question of accountability and transparency will be view as a national asset because every chap and verses were discussed and resolved by the subjects. Had the 1997’s constitution was discussed and resolved on open air, today, there would have not existed the need of amending and revising that document. It could have been the time of implementation and follow up. Eritrea could have been a state governed by the rule of law. The culture of transparency and accountability should also mold the entire movement of the Eritrean opposition. People should know the content of the political documents of the Eritrean opposition block and should refer to their advantage. People should read the charters, bylaws and directives by which those organizations are being guided. People should regulate, control and supervise the day to day activities of each political or civic organization. Avoiding or evading public or mass participation in drafting political charter, by laws and work directives through which members can control their respective organizations is and will be the usual vicious circle which every Eritrean, by now, is fed up. Any political organ, be it a civic, a front or coalition, it has to be abided by authenticated and written political charter and by laws that should be posted on their respective websites or face books where every Eritrean can look at and exploit it to their advantage. The secretive culture of the past time and cheating the mass on daily base should be exposed to the throat. People should know what ought to be known by them. It’s their right. It’s their duty to have and put it in action. Hiding those necessary documents that should be exposed to the advantage of the mass is a cynic and hypocrisy. Right to know, therefore, is a person’s inalienable right.
