Educating our children is war and as a parent you have to be prepared to go into battle to fight along side your children every single day to make sure they get the best possible education. And as parents of African American children you have to be hyper vigilant because the wrong teacher or the wrong school can wreak psychological warfare on your childs self esteem. This I know from experience. Private school, public school doesnt make a difference. Leonard Murray and I go into battle every single day with our kids to get them the best education we can. It isnt always easy and sometimes its terribly frustrating (especially when your children dont always want to do their part...) but there is no other choice and nothing more important. One of my greatest blessings as a mother has been seeing my son Ellison, who has ADHD, blossom into a straight A student by moving him to a school that truly gets him. Dont settle for the school up the street or the one with the glossy brochure claiming they send all their kids to the ivy leagues. Every school aint for every child. But the most important thing is to GET INVOLVED and ADVOCATE for your child.
