Education Minister Christopher PyneNut is out of his depth on PISA - TopicsExpress

Education Minister Christopher PyneNut is out of his depth on PISA results 2012. It is a set of tests on Maths, Literacy and Science by 15 year olds, who have had 10 years of education under both LNP and Labor Australian governments. Obviously it is a variety of States which have had the greatest responsibility. It was only a Federal Labor government that saw the need for improvement , hence the Gonski reforms, which only start in 2014. Before we become suicidal about the 2012 results it worth noting that : (1) In all subjects we were significantly statistically above the OECD mean; (2) Australia comprehensively out performed the USA, Israel, Sweden.(3) We significantly outperformed UK, France, Denmark and New Zealand.(4)Our slightly poorer marks were in contrast to slightly improved marks by a handful of European countries and heroic improvements by Chinese Taipei and Macao-China. True Gonski reforms continued into the future would see our international standing further improved
