“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ― Nelson Mandela At Monday’s School Committee meeting the Committee was introduced to the new staff joining the Dartmouth Schools. It was a very impressive group of professionals coming to Dartmouth to share their knowledge and experience with the students, staff, and community. Thanks to Tracy Oliveria who is the lead person in our Project TIME (Teacher Induction and Mentoring Experience) that is dedicated to providing mentors for all of the new staff as well as support seminars throughout the year. It is important for new staff, even though they may have had previous experience in another district, to have a specific person who can be there to provide the support they need. Thanks to the mentors who volunteered their time and attended special training and order to take on this responsibility. We also selected the (MASC) Massachusetts Association of School Committees to lead our search for a new school superintendent. This search will include reaching out to prospective candidates through advertising and electronic outreach. Also there will be focus groups available to share their opinion of what they are looking for in a school superintendent. This will include groups within the school community as well as in the community at-large. There will also be electronic surveys available so the public can offer their opinion on this important decision. I hope individuals will take the time to provide their thoughts on what is needed for our district to continue to move forward.
