Edward Carson, Ulster Volunteer Force in cahoots with the Tory - TopicsExpress

Edward Carson, Ulster Volunteer Force in cahoots with the Tory Party to usurp democratic Home Rule, the Larne gun-running, the Curragh Incident (I highly recommend Paul OBriens book). The 1913 Lock Out? Were they all irrelevant Mr Bruton? Dublin in 1916 had the second worst slums in Europe (the prize for first place went to Naples) but perhaps Mr Bruton wasnt aware of this either. Perhaps Pádraig Pearse was a bit eccentric to say the least, but no more so than Winston Churchill who viewed war as primarily an opportunity for adventure. Sending tens of thousands to filthy muddy rat and lice infested trenches to fight against fellow ordinary men in a different uniform, and condemning 50,000 or so to the resultant slaughter? Did that have no effect? The Famine? All water under the bridge? The Battalions of Hessian infantry brought to Ireland to slaughter men women and children in their thousands in 1798? I could go on........... This page has no time for politics, Nationalist or otherwise, as you all know at this stage. But when one sees stuff being spouted like this........ It is men like Mr Bruton unfortunately, who exert the influence upon decisions such as the historic area of Moore Street being laid waste to in the future. Revisionism is a huge threat to the tireless work of campaigners who wish to preserve and cherish our rich history. I personally like the English. Some of the finest people I know speak with Cockney, Brummey, Scouse or Geordie accents. Ive had many dealings with Unionists in Ulster over the years, the same applies. Were all flesh and blood at the end of the day. From Cahirciveen to Cornwall or Cushendall we all have families who we love. We all have the same strengths and frailties. But denying ones history, or feeling obliged to doff ones cap..... Ironically, when one sees an article such as this, written by a man of huge influence who is obviously completely out of touch, I can understand better what drove the Irish Volunteers and Citizen Army to do what they did......
