Ed’s top hundred The Chantels - Maybe One of the early girl groups of the fifties, they usually appear on doo wop collections. Can’t see it myself. OK they’re black but they never sang a cappella nor with nonsense syllables. Indeed the lead singer was a classically trained soprano and the girls regularly sang Gregorian chant in the school choir. Anyway - they produce a lovely, heartfelt sound here. (The girls still perform with (most of) the original line up unlike, say, the Drifters or Platters who have had dozens, maybe hundreds, of different members over the years.)
