Effect of Trans fetts on High-Density(HDL) and Low-Density - TopicsExpress

Effect of Trans fetts on High-Density(HDL) and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL) Levels in Healthy Subjects Fatty acids in form von trans isomers ( that contain a trans double bond ) are consumed in large amounts as hydrogenated oils Study placed 34 women and 25 men on natural diets of identical nutrient composition. The whole group of participants were divided to three small groups in which 10 percent of the daily energy intake was provided as three different forms of fats . The first group(G1) receive oleic acid (which contains one cis double bond), the second group(G2) trans isomers of oleic acid and the third group(G2) receive saturated fatty acids. The three diets were consumed for three weeks each, in random order. The HDL cholesterol level on the saturated-fat diet was the same as on the oleic acid diet. On the trans-fatty-acid diet, the subjects mean HDL cholesterol level was 0.17 mmol per liter lower than the mean value on the diet high in oleic acid The LDL cholesterol level was 0.37 mmol per liter higher on the trans-fatty-acid diet than on the oleic acid diet and 0.47 mmol per liter higher on the saturated-fat diet than on the oleic acid diet. The effects on lipoprotein levels did not differ between women and men. Results G 1- oleic asid LDL HDL ( control group) G 2-Trans isomer LDL>G1 HDLG1 HDL=G1 Conclusions. The effect of trans fatty acids( trans fets) on the serum lipoprotein profile is at least as unfavorable as that of the cholesterol-raising saturated fatty acids, because they not only raise LDL cholesterol levels but also lower HDL cholesterol levels. They also lower HDL good cholesterol.they have worst influens on the body than satuerated fat Triglycerides of oleic acid compose the majority of olive oil ( modarates use have no bad influense on HDL and LDL) Examples of foods containing a high proportion of saturated fat include animal fat products such as cream, cheese, butter, ghee, sfatty meats.[1] ] Examples of foods containing trans fatty acids( trans fets) Cookies,Crackers, Cakes,Muffins,Pie crusts ,Pizza dough,Margarine Vegetable shortening,Cake mixes,Pancake mixes,Chocolate drink mixes,Donuts, French fries,Potato chips,Candy,Packaged popcorn,Frozen dinners fitday/fitness-articles/nutrition/fats/the-trans-fatty-acids-food-list-what-to-avoid.html webmd/food-recipes/understanding-trans-fats en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturated_fat nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM199008163230703
