Effective Immediately: Please review the new guidance regarding the Armys tattoo policy AR 670-1 dated 30 April 2014. Those Soldiers with tattoos that are now grandfathered must enclose the attached memorandum in their Commanders packets. AR 670-1, paragraph 3-3e e. To protect Soldiers with previously authorized (now grandfathered) tattoos, Soldiers must self identify to their commander current tattoos or brands with locations and descriptions. This only includes tattoos above the neckline, below the elbows, or below the knees. When reporting to the ARC, students with grandfather tattoos as outlined in (AR 670-1, paragraph 3-3e) are now required to present a copy of their signed tattoo memorandum during the in-processing phase (Day 2). OCONUS Soldiers with grandfather tattoos will be required to provide a signed copy of their tattoo memorandum upon signing in to their recruiting battalion. Again familiarize yourself with AR 670-1, paragraph 3-3e.
