Ehindero for trial March 12 January 16, 2014By oayodele 1 Comment [image] Former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Wednesday again adjourned hearing in the alleged N16m fraud filed against a former Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, to March 12, theNews Agency of Nigeriareports. The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission filed a six-count charge against Ehindero; and the suspended Commissioner of Police-in-charge of Budget, John Obaniyi. According to ICPC, the amount is the interest generated from N567m donated to the Nigeria Police by the Bayelsa State Government for the purchase of arms, ammunition and riot control equipment. It will be recalled that on Nov. 26, 2013, the court could not sit because the appeal filed by Ehindero was pending in court, Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi had then fixed January 15, 2014 for the hearing. At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, however, the case could not go on again as ICPC counsel, Mr. Okwor John-Paul, holding brief for Mr. Paul Bassi, informed the court that Ehindero’s appeal was still pending before the Court of Appeal. John-Paul said, “We are glad to inform the court that the appeal had been heard on Dec. 2, 2013 and that the Justice Aminu Sanusi-led panel has reserved its judgment. “No date has been fixed for the judgment.” Justice Oniyangi, then fixed March 12 for continuation of trial. Ehindero is challenging the ruling of Justice Oniyangi delivered on Sept. 22, 2012. In that ruling, Oniyangi held that the ICPC had, by the proof of evidence before the court, successfully established a prima facie evidence against the accused to warrant their being put to trial.
