Ekiti Set To Begin Construction Of Another 96KM Of LG Roads In September Ekiti State Government in conjunction with the Local councils of the state have set machinery in motion for the construction of another 96 Kilometres of roads spread across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state under the second phase the Fayemi- Administration’s 5- Kilometer Road Projects. The State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barrister Paul Omotoso who made this known during the Ministerial Press Briefing and Stakeholders Forum organised by the Ekiti State Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation in Ado-Ekiti said the initiative which has been rechristened Local Government Township Roads Development Project will bring the total length of Local Government roads constructed under the Fayemi-Administ ration to 176 kilometers He disclosed that the contracts for the second phase of the road projects which will be funded from the excess crude oil account would be awarded in September this year While noting that the design and costing of the projects were already ongoing, Omotoso said the initiative was key to realization of Item 2 on the 8-point agenda of the Fayemi Administation of making all communities in the state accessible by high quality and durable roads before 2014. The Commissioner who stressed that the first phase of the 5-kilometer road projects have been completed and were ready for commissioning in Ado , Ikere, Ikole and Efon Local Government Areas noted that the projects were nearing completion in the other council areas He said the ongoing and completed local government road projects were already having a multiplier effect on the quality of lives of the people at the grassroots and the economy of the state as the initiative has gone a long way in reducing the cost of transportation in the rural areas of the state and have also greatly reduced rural –urban drift in the state Earlier in his welcome address, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Tayo Ekundayo who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Kola Ajumobi, noted that the forum was organised to highlight the achievements and constraints of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs as well as generate feedback from critical stakeholders at the local government level. While noting that the Fayemi Administration had recorded giant strides in all spheres of human development since its assumption of office in 2010, the Commissioner noted that the pace of rapid transformation in the rural areas of the state under the present administration was unprecedented in the history of the state Credit: bidex concept #humble
