Elaine, I read the links you have tagged me in and have seen similar links as well. I have two counter points to make the first and most important I feel is that Israel will agree a ceasefire with an external country without Hamas being involved in the talks or informed of the ceasefire so how can they break it when they didnt even know it was happening until they are condemned for continuing to fire, the second is in all the ceasefire and war negotiation talks Israel demands concessions from Hamas but offers none themselves and refuse anything that Hamas request. While I agree with you that both sides are at fault Israel is a properly trained fully funded military force with a very sophisticated defence system that prevents 60% of any airborne rockets from reaching destination, Hamas is nothing like this, Israel has the ability to target their attacks to ensure no civilian casualties yet it is the Palestinian civilian population that is taking the hardest casualty hit - Israel has a larger force and the ability to infiltrate as they have shown in recent days but they choose to bomb civilian areas and their retort about dropping leaflets warning people doesnt go far enough for me. They have been told time and time again by the international community that expanding their settlements in to Gaza (and the west bank) is illegal but because they never suffer any sort of punishment from the international community they continue to expand anyway - they hide behind anit-Semitism like a burglar hides in the dark, they bully, steal land and homes from a neighbouring country and then complain when those people have had enough of being abused and start to fight back. I say again Neither side is without fault and I truly believe that neither side is truly interested in peace , lets face it they have been fighting for 60 years but Israel is the larger, stronger force and Palestine has always had the highest civilian casualty list so yes I say it is highly unfair to tell an abused nation to stop antagonising their bully but not tell the bully to stop abusing their victim and punishing them if they refuse. I dont see why having a difference of opinion on this one issue is enough to break our friendship over but if you disagree I am not going to beg you toi change your mind, I will wish you well for the future and respect your wish to break away from me.
