Election date 2015 | Trinidad Express Newspaper | Commentaries ow.ly/3uQOzc Either way, a fixed date for general election would make for a more stable democracy. I disagree. Fixed dates - dates more fixed than they already are - will only mean that the public is saddled with a political directorate for a very set period, a period that might extend well beyond public tolerance. Frankly, it is a naked fallacy that we do not have fixed election dates. There are markers set by which a general election must be called in Trinidad and Tobago. It has happened twice that previous administrations have let public tolerance be the guide for general elections, rather than their going the distance currently permitted by the Constitution. Fixed election dates fix nothing, other than ensuring that an unfit government is made more difficult to dislodge.
