Elections have consequences. Oh the priorities! One of the newly elected Senate’s main priorities next year will be to pay back its largest election benefactor the Koch brothers. Passage of the Keystone XL Pipeline could yield Koch Industries $100 Billion dollars; the current Senate leader would likely have blocked the pipeline. Not bad for the estimated $400 million dollars in secret dark PAC money they spent on these midterm elections (Thanks to the Supreme Court, close to $1 Billion were spent on these the most expensive midterms ever). If completed, the pipeline will likely damage the Ogallala Aquifer which occupies the High Plains of the United States and underlies about 450,000 square kilometers (174,000 square miles) of eight states. The Ogallala Aquifer is the single most important source of water in the High Plains region, providing nearly all the water for residential, industrial, and agricultural use. In addition, it supports nearly one-fifth of the wheat, corn, cotton, and cattle produced in the United States. So why do this? The US is drilling oil and fracking for gas like never before (this is the “drill baby drill” administration). Furthermore, the pipeline is being sold as a job creator but will only create 50 long-term jobs (2,000 temporary). And the oil from this pipeline is also going to be exported to China and not for US consumption; it will raise and not lower gas prices. huffingtonpost/2014/11/05/senate-republicans-keystone_n_6104554.html
