Electrical Operative We are looking for a technically minded, physically able Asset Inspector to work on a large scale project in the electrical distribution industry. You will need to be hard working and self-motivated, comfortable working outdoors in all weathers and terrains, possibly walking long distances in the working day. Liaising with customers and landowners will require exceptional customer service and a good level of common sense. Your role will be to undertake overhead line and substation patrols, assessing the safety and state of repair of poles, structures and cabling relating to the electrical distribution network: •Test and classify poles. •Measure and record line heights and clearances. •Identify proximity and locational risks and record them. •Identify defects, rectify minor ones and escalate others as appropriate. You will also be responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repairs of support equipment e.g. ladders, belts, climbers, tools You will need to be IT literate as you will be using computers and software programs to schedule, manage and update your work when arriving at and before leaving work: •Retrieve and enter data related to assets and inspections using the asset database. •Use of geographical and network mapping computer based systems. Full training will be provided for this role but essential criteria that you must meet will be; outdoors experience, able to demonstrate ability with IT, happy to walk long distances through rural terrain and an effective communicator. Some mechanical and/or electrical knowledge will be beneficial to applicants and thorough training will be provided. There is potential for moving into more technical surveying/asset inspections or other areas of the business in the future, once the initial asset management project is completed. A company van will be provided for site to site travel though you will be responsible for travelling to and from the depot for work. The company is responsible for delivering power to customers living in the Midlands, the South West of England and South Wales and the network covers some of the most beautiful and diverse terrain in the UK, from highly populated urban areas to remote rural areas - therefore a full UK driving license and access to your own transport for commuting is essential.
