Elena Rusnak was my dance teacher at NVCC. As a product of dolly dinkle dance studios my whole life (as Elena would call them), I felt extremely lucky to all of the sudden have a teacher who took the time to correct all of my bad habits because she saw the dancer I was trying to become. Elena made me confident in my art and inspired me to have confidence in life as well. The years I spent in the NVCC Dance Department hold some of my most cherished memories. To hear of Elenas passing makes my heart so sore. I keep dancing her choreography. The across the floor triplet combinations. The breathing exercises. The modern dance falls. The American Beauty soundtrack. The opportunity to create, collaborate and perform so many kinds of art. Elenas choreography is embedded in the spirit of every dancer that grand jetéd through her studio. This video is the first piece of dance I ever choreographed with Elena at NVCC. I created it to help me get through the grief of losing one of my very good friends. It is not a very good recording of the piece, but I would like to dedicate it now to another very good friend. Elena, you have inspired so many dancers. You will be so very missed.
