Eleven Kansas City Metro Lutheran churches will partner together on Sunday, September 8 for a day of community service in the Troost Corridor, Northeast Kansas City and in Kansas City, Kan. Members of these congregations represent both sides of the state line. Hundreds of volunteers will converge on three sites that day. Work projects will take place at St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran Church, as well as in the surrounding neighborhoods of the Troost Corridor and DeLaSalle High School. Groups will also work out of Children’s Memorial Lutheran Church in Northeast Kansas City, Mo. and at Mosaic in Kansas City, Kan. All of these projects are designed to help these congregations and ministries continue to provide much needed social services and care to the communities they serve. In addition, the collaborative community service day celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the greater ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). All 11 churches are a part of the ELCA. Special thanks go to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans for partnering with this Day of Service. For more information, please contact Pastor Dave Whetter at Salem Lutheran Church in Lenexa, Kan.
