Elgin Engineering Contracted by ArcelorMittal for Relining of Blast Furnace A Blast Furnace at the ArcelorMittal Newcastle plant is scheduled for a reline during 2014. Elgin Engineering was awarded the contract for the mechanical refractory of the Furnace - which includes repairs, replacement of parts of the hot blast system and the replacement of the furnace bottom cooling system, as well as the supply of an iron bridge and canopy. Valued at R49 m - Elgin will be responsible for the designing and drawing, fabrication and construction, as well as the management of the entire project. The project’s duration, from commencement to handover, will be an estimated three months. As a part of the company’s policy of creating new employment opportunities and upskilling people in order to create a sustainable workforce, Elgin Engineering will be employing 100 skilled individuals from the Newcastle area – thereby contributing to the growth and stimulation of the local economy.
