Elizabeth Friend In McDonough Illinois a man named James Spiva had issues sleeping at night and was afflicted with very bad luck. His cows gave bad milk, his dog died and his oxen went missing. His brother, a doctor, suggested that he may be bewitched and he knew who was responsible. The first suspect was Elizabeth Friend, who was sick with typhoid fever at the time. James drew a picture of her , nailed it to a tree and shot it with a silver bullet. She died quickly and James said publicly that he had gotten rid of his witch.
