Elizabeth Taylor divorced her fourth husband, crooner Eddie Fisher, on this date 50 years ago after nearly five years of marriage. Taylor and Richard Burton, who was also married at the time, set off a firestorm of publicity when they fell in love while making the 1963 epic Cleopatra. Taylor and Burton would marry on March 15, 1964 only to divorce a decade later. They remarried about 18 months later, but the second time around, their union lasted less than a year.
