Ellie Goulding at BIEL tonight. Shes an A-list pop star who sold millions of singles and albums and to bring her to Lebanon, in this very unstable situation, was extremely difficult. She is in the middle of a sold out world tour and when her agents and insurers heard that suicide bombers were threatening the country, they considered cancellation. Sometimes I feel that the job of concert promoter is very underrated in Lebanon and that people have no idea what we go through in the months preceding an event. Will the artists cancel due to security fears? Will people show up, despite the situation? And even if the artist ends up maintaining the show, will something happen in the country that will force us to cancel? This nerve-wracking waiting game leads to extreme amounts of stress, sleepless nights, anxiety, illness and lots of doubt. Is it worth all this trouble? Should we give up and do something easier instead? And then the day finally arrives, miraculously and against all odds and you start feeling that adrenaline rush again. The preparations on the ground, the sign of relief that you breathe when the artist finally lands, the lines forming outside the venue, filled with enthusiastic and appreciative fans. The lights, the music, the show and you suddenly forget all your anxieties and start remembering why you fell in love with this field in the first place. And when you manage to succeed in such difficult circumstances, victory tastes even sweeter. Its the highest form of satisfaction and reward. And its at that exact moment that you realize that youre already ready to do it all over again! :)
