Email today from Fairfax photographer Brendan Esposito (via change.org): I’d like to pass on my sincere thanks – and that of all the staff at The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald and the Australian Financial Review – for your outstanding support. In just three days, more than 10,000 of you signed our petition to help save photography and editorial jobs at Fairfax. Weve been overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of petitioners who supported us – and its meant that as a direct result of the campaign youve helped save 16 jobs of photojournalists and editorial staff. It is, of course, mixed news today. The company has continued with a restructure and is offering many redundancies. But youve helped limit the damage to journalism at Fairfax, ensuring an additional 8 photographers and production staff are kept with us. This would not have been possible without you, Fairfax readers, expressing your concern to the company directly. Thank you.
