. Embajada de la República Árabe Siria Bulletin No 059 / December 2014 PRESIDENT AL-ASSAD: THE SYRIANS APPRECIATE IRAN’S STANCE, ARE DETERMINED TO ERADICATE TERRORISM. Damascus, SANA, December 22, 2014. Damascus, SANA – President Bashar al-Assad stressed on Sunday the Syrians’ resolve to eradicate terrorism and extremist thoughts that are menacing the region and the world. During his meeting with Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council Ali Larijani and the accompanying Iranian delegation, the President affirmed that the Syrians are also keen to proceed with and boost national reconciliations across Syria on a parallel track with combating terrorism. He said the Syrian people are proud of the historical brotherly relations binding them with the people of Iran, “which have witnessed many successes on the bilateral and regional levels over the past decades.” Iran’s stance on Syria is highly appreciated by the Syrians, the President noted, stressing the latter’s keenness to further bolster cooperation with the Iranian side in all domains in a way that serves the common interests shared by the two countries and the establishment of security and stability in the region. The Iranian Parliament’s Speaker, for his part, applauded the Syrian people for their steadfastness in countering the terrorist war targeting their security and stability. While hailing the Syrians’ steadfastness, Larijani made it clear that the people of Iran will not hesitate to provide all forms of support to Syria to the effect of further consolidating the requirements of this steadfastness and fighting terrorism and its backers. The Iranian official also underscored Tehran’s support for the efforts seeking to push forward holding a national dialogue among the Syrians, which he said would maintain Syria’s sovereignty and national unity away from external interferences. Al-Moallem thanked Iran’s people and leadership for their support for Syria, stressing the need to continue pursuing a political solution for the crisis in Syria based on inter-Syrian dialogue without foreign interference. President Bashar al-Assad said the Syrians are quite aware of the truth about the situation in their own country, which opens up new prospects for religious work for drawing a line between subversive fanaticism and genuine faith. The President’s comments came during his meeting with a delegation of Muslim and Christian clergymen who are taking part in the Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Ministry’s annual conference which kicked off in Damascus on Sunday. Genuine religious faith, said the President, is underpinned by ethics, amity, cooperation and respecting the other as diametrically opposed to “subversive fanaticism”. He underlined religious clergymen’s significant role in enhancing national reconciliations and disseminating a culture of dialogue among the Syrian people. 2
