Emirates Co-op Society announces Dhs20m Ramadan initiative. DUBAI: Emirates Co-operative Society (ECS), which has around seven hypermarkets spread all over the UAE, has announced a Ramadan initiative worth Dhs20 million in price reductions that would see the prices of hundreds of commodities slashed by up to 50 per cent. At a press conference, Farid Al Shamandy, General Manager ECS announced the Ramadan package and informed that around 267 items have been incorporated in the first phase of the three-part Ramadan campaign to reduce prices by up to 50 per cent. “Our main aim is to compensate for the difference and offer consumers reasonably priced products under the instructions of the Governing Council of Emirates Co-Op with the approval of the Ministry of Economy,” he said. Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy also attended the press conference and appreciated the kind gesture of the ECS towards the community. The items included in the price reduction campaign are mostly daily eatables ranging from fresh produce to tinned and packaged food items but also include kitchen items like cutlery and utensils. He also said that throughout Ramadan, government department employees would be further benefited from special discount cards issued to them by their employers. “Besides this, we will also support charitable organisations this Ramadan like Bait Al Khair and Women and Children Association to provide food items to needy people,” he added. The offers are available at all ECS branches, including Twar 3, Mezhar 2, Hatta, Garhoud, Jaffliya, Saffouh and Emirates Express. Sajjad Azees, Marketing Manager, while talking to The Gulf Today, said the ECS has been introducing ‘Ramadan Baskets’ for the community as part of the Ramadan initiative. “As usual, this year we have also introduced two types of ‘Ramadan Baskets’. The basket with 11 items like rice, vegetable oil, flour, sugar and other items is worth Dhs120 while the other type of basket worth Dhs200 includes additional items like loose tea, biscuits and a variety of juices. One basket is enough to last a week for a medium-sized family,” he added. Azees further added that the ongoing Ramadan campaign is in three parts. “The second phase will run from July 18-July 28, during which an additional 200 items will be offered at prices reduced by up to 50 per cent. “The third phase will be for Eid — from Aug.1- Aug.13, offering a further 100 items at reduced prices,” he added.
